On one fine, sweet and sunny day
everything's gonna go our way
we'll get a phone call from a distant relative
who's got a lot of money and never had a kid
we're gonna buy that house in the safe part of town
and all our best friends will be living right around there
we'll have health insurance and we won't ever have to use it
we'll eat all the best food and we won't ever have to cook it
and when it snows it'll be that perfect fluffy snow
and it'll be 30 degrees and that real cold wind won't ever blow
we'll play a banjo all day and all night
and no one will get mad and no one will ever fight about it
we won't have to do taxes we'll have a reliable car
we won't need a mower cause we won't have to mow the yard
we'll just walk on over to switzerland hike up them big alps
and walk on back to kansas city with chocolate in our pretty little mouths
and everyone will be happy and the news will all be good
there'll be no wars and the government will be run by who it should be
and everyone we've ever loved will love us right on back
and no one will be jealous and no one will be sad
we'll apologize to all the people that we've ever done wrong
and they'll forgive us and we'll be buddies and we'll sing and pick a good country song
and everyday will be sunday and it never will end
one fine, sweet and sunny day it will happen my friend

Brake Line
02:48
|
|||
O well the brake line
is busted out and leaking
and the fluid is rolling down the lot
is there something
that you feel is missing?
is there something that you never got?
O yea the brake line
is busted out and leaking
and the fluid is rolling to the street
how i wish that
you would look at me
just sometimes when our eyes meet
O yea the brake line
is busted out and leaking
and the fluid is never coming back
maybe i'll get in the car right now
head on down the highway
with no brakes holding me back

Games I Can't Win
03:05
|
|||
I got into a staring contest with a can of pepsi
it's the kind of thing that always happening to poor me
i play games that i can't win
i played a round of euchre with a lowsy, cheatin, hoosier
he was pulling cards from his sleeve, laughing at poor me
I play games that I can't win
i picked my numbers and i drew my cards
i played around in those dirty dive bars
i waited on my lucky strike
and i can't count the powerball tickets i bought for the lottery that is my sorry life
i woke up and i saw your face
you were lying in the same place
i was holding onto something
you were letting go of everything
i play games that i can't win
i picked my numbers and i drew my cards
i played around in those dirty dive bars
i waited on my lucky strike
and i can't count the powerball tickets i bought for the lottery that is my sorry life
i woke up and i saw your face
you were lying in the same place
i was holding onto something
you were letting go of everything

And Then There's You
02:47
|
|||
There are some folks that when you see them
you can smell them deep in your nose
there are some folks that when you hear them
you can feel them deep in your bones
and then there is you
there are some folks that when you touch them
there's too much of them, don't we all know
there are some folks that when you taste them
you can't erase them, no matter where you go
and then there is you
there are all kinds of folks in this big and mean old world
and one of them is you
yea one of them buddy is you

Only the Good Dreams
02:55
|
|||
There's a girl with curls somewhere in the hoosier state
dreaming about leaving and eating fudgecake all the way
cause sometimes late at night her daddy hits her with the garden hose
and tells her that he loves her as he wipes the blood from her nose
may all of your nightmares dissolve
may all of the darkness change it's hue
may every misfortune avoid everyone of you
and may only the good dreams come true
there's a poet gettin loaded writing lines for another chapbook
hoping that somebody other than his buddy will care to take a look
and sometimes late at night he sees a woman in his dreams
with a rope around her neck and the floor so far from her feet
may all of your nightmares dissolve
may all of the darkness change it's hue
may every misfortune avoid everyone of you
and may only the good dreams come true
there's a good sandman, a bad sandman
and every kind in between
i wish you all the best, happiness and only the good dreams

Tell Me Frank
03:35
|
|||
I was watching the tv while pumping gas
a man came on through the plastic glass
saying "buddy you won't believe what they've done now!
they build a microwave, but not just any kind!
you can talk to it if you're short on time!
just say 'pop popcorn' and it'll do it!
don't that make you go wow!"
tell me frank, do you think we've run out of steam?
has everybody in this god-almighty world given up or is it just me?
tell me frank, do you think we've run out of steam?
and all the petty stuff that they make now
they spend years just trying to figure out
the best way to make it break down
i guess we'll never make it to the top of the charts
or to the five dollar cd bin at walmart
tell me frank, do you think we've killed the spark?
tell me frank, do you think we've run out of steam?
has everybody in this god-almighty world given up or is it just me?
tell me frank, do you think we've run out of steam?
tell me frank, do you think we've run out of steam?
has everybody in this god-almighty world given up or is it just me?
tell me frank, do you think we've run out of steam?

There's a sound the refrigerator makes
that's real quiet and high
sometimes i turn off the tv
i listen to it and i sigh
cause it don't know what i know
it don't know what i know
and that is...
everything is gonna away buddy in the end
and there's a white room in fort wayne
where the people round here go to die
they strip you naked and they put you in a gown
and feed you fifty dollar pieces of pie
cause they know what i know
they know what i know
buddy
everything is gonna go away buddy in the end
one time i got so sad, i filled the bathtub up with my tears
the bar of soap started laughing at me and the washcloth whispered in my ear
"i know what you know, everybody knows what you know"
everything is gonna go away buddy in the end

I Remember the Stars
03:24
|
|||
I remember the stars
i remember the way it fell apart
i remember the moon
but i can't remember you
i remember the sound
i remember the day you left town
i remember the groove
but i can't remember you
i remember the stars
i remember the way it fell apart
i remember the moon
but i can't remember you

All the people walking round this town
their new coats and busted zippers
old man shoveling the drive
little kids running through the sprinkler
i thought i could let you go
back it up onto the front porch
drive it straight into the back yard
and apartment in the middle of country
fifty bucks a month just to park
i thought i could let you go

Goodbye My Dear Friend
03:08
|
|||
There once was a little star a-twinkling
way up in the sky
it knew all of my wishes
it helped me to get by
but now the little star has burnt out
how i wish it would come back soon
but sometimes starry wishes
will not come true
so it's goodbye my dear friend
o what a time it's been
o you've brought so much joy
to this old hoosier boy
and fare thee well my old pal
who knows what happens now
and as the sun falls west
i wish you all the best
so let's raise one more glass
and toast to me and you
to all the laughs we had
to all that we've been through
for tomorrow, today will be yesterday
a memory bound to dissolve
like every ray of sunlight
slowly gone as the sun falls
so it's goodbye my dear friend
o what a time it's been
you've brought so much joy
to this old hoosier boy
and fare thee well my old pal
who knows what happens now
and as the sun falls west
i wish you all the best
and as the sun falls west
i wish you all the best

you are my very best friend
i will love you til the world ends
that's something i've wanted to say for so long
that's something i've wanted to say for so long
you are my very best friend
i will love you the sun ends
that's something i've wanted to say for so long
that's something i've wanted to say for so long
